Massage Therapy Techniques I Offer

Proven, Experienced, Auckland Massage Therapist

How my massage therapy can help:

Sports massage

Whether you are a competitive athlete, a weekend warrior or someone simply trying to keep up a healthy level of fitness, regular Sports Massage can provide many benefits. Sports Massage can help reduce injuries and increase performance by utilizing different soft tissue techniques. These techniques can increase range of motion and/or flexibility, speed up recovery by increasing local circulation and reducing inflammation and help with rehabilitation of sports related injuries. If you have an event or competition coming up, we can help get you there feeling great! Book a Sports Massage for a pre-event or a post-event treatment for preparation and/or recovery.

Deep tissue massage

This option is for those who are looking for a more general deeper pressure massage. My targeted deep tissue massage treatment simply focuses on the sub-layer of musculature and fascia to release tension and knots. Benefits of this treatment include increased local circulation, pain and stress reduction and stimulation of the nervous system.

Medical massage

Medical Massage can be beneficial for those with chronic pain, injuries, those who are pre/post rehab and more. Medical Massage can help decrease pain and restore function by reducing inflammation and increasing range of motion. A doctor may prescribe a Medical Massage, or a chiropractor/osteopath may recommend a Medical Massage to complement their treatment.  I specialise in treatments for Headaches, TMJ Dysfunction, Facial Pain, Shoulder Pain, Neck and Back Pain, Hip and Knee Pain, and more!

Prenatal massage therapy

Massage Therapy during pregnancy is a great way to reduce stress and promote wellness for both mum and baby! Massage can help relieve many of the normal discomforts experienced during pregnancy such as backaches, hip pain, foot and ankle pain, neck and shoulder tightness, foot and hand swelling or oedema and more.

I have options to accommodate each client’s comfort as well. You can be treated side lying, fully draped and supported with pillows or if you prefer to be lying on your back, I have a pregnancy pillow that will allow for that! Your comfort comes first, so I will make sure you are in the best position during your treatment.

Postnatal massage therapy

After a baby is born it is just as important a time for a new mum to take care of herself! Taking care of a newborn brings about new challenges and stresses on the body and massage can help those new aches and pains from lifting, carrying, new sleep schedules/positions, etc.

Therapeutic

Using a combination of techniques, your massage program is customized to meet your needs using the techniques that best suit you. It will help you to attain the physical, mental and emotional status you desire. Over time you will become stronger, more flexible, physically and emotionally self-aware and reducing your chances for injury.

Trigger point

Similar to acupressure the manipulation of points on the hands, feet, face and ears that correspond to other parts of the body. It works with the body’s energy flow to stimulate body organs and relieve areas of congestion. This works to stimulate self-healing and maintain balance in physical function.

Acupressure

As with acupuncture, certain points on the body correlate with nerve endings and stimulation of bodily functions. The techniques use pressure to release knots (toxins) improve circulation and results in a feeling of overall wellness.

Lymphatic drainage

Using pressure and flowing manipulation to stimulate the rhythm and flow of the lymphatic system for overall health benefits. The lymphatic system fights infections and promotes healing throughout the body. The only way to pump lymphatic fluid throughout the body is through exercise or massage.

Facilitated stretching and joint rotation

Stretching through pushing and pulling or applying pressure helps to loosen muscles, relieves stress, release knots and increase blood circulation. Rotating with circular motion of the joints loosens tendons and ligaments and lubricates cartilage to improve range of motion.

Don’t let pain slow you down!

Massage for specific areas of tension

Here are some types of massage that may be included in your session or experienced independently. Many of my clients have commented that what makes my massage unique and special is specific attention to certain areas of the body.

Face and Head Massage

Do you grind or grit your teeth? Grin and bear it?
This massage can help to relax the delicate muscles around your eyes, and the strongest muscle in your body; the masseter (jaw muscle). Reducing the stress in your face will not only make you feel younger but can even reduce the physical signs of aging.

Shoulder, Neck and Back Massage

Problems with the neck and shoulder area are almost “epidemic.” Anyone who types on a computer has extra tension in their neck and shoulders, and in their hands and wrists. The muscles of the back and neck are particularly vulnerable to the dangers of this repetitive motion, due to their structure.

This massage may involve intense pressure on the shoulder and neck muscles, along with stretches, to ease the tension and bring your shoulders back down to their comfortable level.

Lower Back, Gluteal and Leg Massage
Do you sit in an office chair all day?

If you do, chances are that your lower back, gluteal and hamstring muscles are a bit tighter than is comfortable for you. Most of you will feel this as lower back ache or cramp.

This massage will wake your lower body up with stretches, movement, and pressure on all those big muscles. You are sure to feel looser and more comfortable after this.

Foot Massage

Those tiny bones and muscles in your feet carry your body all day. This may explain why most of my clients fall asleep when I touch their feet.

What my clients have said about my massage & therapy services

“I have had severe problems with my neck for years, and more recently with my back as well. A friend of mine told me about Debbie and how different she is from other massage therapists. He told me that she had gotten results for his problems that no one else had been able to resolve. So, I figured that I would give it a try. I was sceptical. What a difference Debbie has made in my lifestyle. For several weeks after my visits with Debbie, I feel younger, and pain free again. Now I look forward to my visits to Debbie, because I know I will feel better when I leave than I did when I got there” –

Steve, Auckland

“Debbie is an expert in the field of Massage Therapy. Her knowledge far exceeds the industry standard. Debbie’s hands on approach may be surprising to some, being that her education is much more medical and this reflects in her style of massage. She can not only give a relaxing session, but actually address a condition, treat it, and fix it!! Go check out her beautiful space!!!!” –

Sandra, Auckland

“I have been seeing Debbie for Sports massage therapy for over a decade. As an endurance athlete, her ability to treat niggling injuries and to aid recovery has been exceptional, and has been instrumental in keeping me on the road. At all times she acts with the utmost professionalism along with a caring and interested manner.” –
